Spas and Salons Have To Adapt For Larger Women

As airplanes make their seats wider to fit the larger passenger, now spas and salons are trying to accomodate women’s curvier shapes.

An innovative and quirky new support device spells the end of rolled-up towels and discomfort for the nation’s increasingly larger-busted treatment lovers. Suitable for all, but ideal for those with naturally large or surgically-enhanced breasts, the Ladypillo (www.ladypillo.com) offers optimum support and comfort without constricting sensitive breast tissue, via strategic contours that fit women’s curves. Research into its design and creation came after speaking to hundreds of therapists and treatment providers (as well as users) from all around the UK, and rigorous testing over many months.

The most recent statistics from the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) show that breast augmentation is still the commonest surgical procedure, and the number of women undergoing ‘boob jobs’ rose by over 50% in the last five years. With the influence of curvier celebrities such as Christina Hendricks (including the advent of a so-called “Mad Men boob job”) it is not surprising that – like airplane seats becoming wider – adjustments are made for people’s evolving shapes.

Ladypillo (£59.99) is a contoured upper body support pillow, which relieves pressure on the breasts for women lying on their front, eliminating discomfort and providing total support for the upper body. It is particularly suited to times when breasts are sensitive, such as pre and post menstrual, pre and post natal, pre and post operative and breastfeeding.

A quick chat with… Chloe Nelson, Ladypillo Ltd.

Who do you work for and what do you do?
I am responsible for the sales and marketing at Ladypillo Ltd a company that produces a range of breast and body support pillows made from 100 per cent memory foam.

How is business?
Business is great! The beauty industry has embraced our innovations and the brand is growing from strength to strength. We have had orders from some great brands such as Clarins and Dove Spa and so it’s exciting to see the big players in the industry get on board. Even Amy Childs now uses it in her salon!

What are the challenges at the moment?
The Ladypillo is designed for women the world over and our mission is to go global this year and establish key distribution partners worldwide. We are working hard to spread the word and get as many salons and spas aware of the product as possible.

In business terms, what could make your life easier?
I don’t expect it to be easy – where’s the challenge in that!?

How would you describe the business community you operate in?
It’s diverse – from large multinational distributors to self employed mobile therapists! But we love working with different sectors and seeing the satisfaction they get by being able to offer our product to their clients. The feedback we get is brilliant.

Who’s your business hero?
My mum. She’s always run her own business, even whilst raising children and still manages to be the most interesting and glamorous woman I know!

What do you get up to outside of work?
I’m partial to the odd spa visit and enjoy travelling to new places – the world is too big to go somewhere twice!

What’s your guilty pleasure?
Turning my phone off at the weekend!

A revolutionary range of breast and treatment support pillows for spas and salons has just launched, meaning the days of non eco-friendly, rolled-up towels and discomfort for breastfeeding, pregnant (or even surgically-enhanced) clients are gone.

The Ladypillo offers optimum comfort and relaxation to all female salon customers through ergonomically designed support pillows that provide support without constricting sensitive breast tissue.

Research into the design and creation of the product came after speaking to hundreds of therapists and treatment providers from all around the UK, and rigorous testing over years.

Each product is made from 100% memory foam, which reacts and responds to the body’s heat and weight, to mould and support the body’s natural contours, thus resulting in ultimate customer comfort and satisfaction. The pillows return to their original shape after each treatment. Each product comes with a removable, non-allergenic, anti-bacterial, breathable, waterproof cover, which is fully machine-washable at high temperatures.

Marie Schmid, Head of Treatment Development at Clarins said: “Ladypillo is a professional company with a professional outlook! Great products that are extremely comfortable, supportive and totally unique to the market place.”
